Storytelling and engaging the reader
An example of storytelling is that a narrator man or women
speaks over a film or shot to describe or explain the story, this helps the
audience who is listening to understand what is happening in the film or shot
but also to bring them in and keep them interested. By overlapping the audio on
top of a piece of footage creates a voice of god which makes could be the
effect in the film having someone tell a story like a flash back or showing
imagery when telling the story so the audience can visualise what the narrator
is saying.
With this technique there is a few editing that goes
through, one that I know id overlapping putting audio on top to create a voice
of god which is a narrator this is effective because it makes the reader listen
and to carry on what the narrator is saying.
Development of drama
Al ot of editing techniques are used to create different
drama in different movies. For example a montage could cause panic, frustration
or terror in a film which could cause the drama of someone being attacked or
scared in the film. Another editing technique used which could create drama is
hand held footage this shows the audience what the actor is doing in his/her
point of view this could create again panic or terror of running away from
someone or something in a movie but could also cause drama between two characters
like an argument or a fight between them.
to feel emotions because of the change between time and space which creates that emotion for the audience to hold on and feel when experiencing the settings and characters that the actors are meeting. It also makes the film more realistic when it comes to continuity editing because all the action that is taking place flows right the way through the film. This makes it easier for drama to take place because of the flow that is happening which creates a better effect when watching.
Editing techniques are normally used to fit a movie to a
genre for example in an action adventure movie a fight scene or a car chase
normally takes place to show the audience the fast pace action that is taking
place fast pace editing is used to show it. A dolly is used to follow the
action that is taking place on set. The dolly is on a track which follows the
car during the scene to capture the actor during the time and to make the
audience feel like they are part of the action. Seeing the chase scene creates
the action adventure side to the movie which fits into the action adventure
genre. Another example in a horror movie fast pace editing is used to show
panic and terror of the actor montage is a good example to use because its
images placed together which change in a fast motion this creates panic and
terror for the audience to feel it also speeds up time which creates the horror
effect which fits with that genre.
Editing effects are
effective when relating film to the genre this is because it changes the time
sand speed of the film which creates different effects and emotions to each
film which relate and fit in with different genres. But some editing techniques
that are normally seen in movies which are fitted too be used in a certain
genre can be used in other genre movies to create the same effect but for a
different point or scene in the film.
Creating motivation
This technique is vital for creating and producing a film
this is one of the main things that keeps a target audience involved and
interested in the product. To be a successful director and editor when creating
this film or television programme must look for motivation in there cuts and
other editing techniques, this effects and determines how the audience will
feels about what they are watching.
The main techniques that are used to create this is the
different editing techniques that are used in a film or television programme to
keep the audience engaged and to effect the emotions and feeling of the
audience for example the different cuts that are used to change from one scene
to the other.
Many of the editing techniques that are used are effective
when trying to create an emotion for the audience to feel for example when
using a cut from one scene to another to change from one image to another to
show reaction or reaction to another character or image this could create
something for the audience to feel because of these cuts and movements between
shots.
Cutting from one
scene to another or cutting from one character to another will help persuade
how the audience will feel. Each cut will help motivate their emotions and
cause them to react positively or negatively to the scene. For example the clip
below from the film Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 2 shows
characters all concentrating on Harry Potter which persuades the
audience to feel scared and anxious for the safety of Harry Potter.
Combining shots into sequences
Putting single shots into sequences is a process use so all
the shots flow when watching. Once the shots have individually been edited they
can be placed together in a good successful editing sequence which will look
good when played and watched. The edits need to be invisible so the audience
doesn’t notice it when watching sp the audience can only see one long sequence.
The techniques that are used are editing shot that can piece
shots together to make it look smooth when watching. For example match on
action could be used to make it more realistic so the actor is keeping the same
position and holding the same object in the right had in two different shots.
Also other shots like shot reverse shot create tension and shows convocation
between to people.
There are many advantages that create this. Using different
editing techniques creates that effect of the film becoming more realistic for
an audience to watch. Using these techniques the main film flows and all shots
fit together and also creating different emotions and feeling that audiences
can feel.
This scene from the film Mr and Mrs Smith is an
example of different shots combined together to make a sequence.
Creating pace
This is used to speed up and slow down a film. This changes
the way the audiences see the film. For example action adventure films are
usually fast paced this is because it fit in with the genre , example a car
chase shots will be more rapped to create a different effect when watching.
Drama films are normally slower this is so the audience can understand the
scene that is taking place. This is also done with long shots in a scene.
Creating a fast pace in films changes the emotion of the
film during the sequence to relate it to genre or to create an emotion when the
scene is taking place
In this footage it shows a scene which involves a chase it
is fast pace action which creates tension when watching but it also gets u
exited and involved in the action.
There are many advantages to using this technique in films
it creates tension connects it too is genre and bring different emotions to an
audience but makes them understand what is going on during the scene with the
speed of the shot.
