'Post it love' camera analysis - Task 3 (part 1)

Post it love

The opening shot of ‘post it love’ is a deep focus close up, using this technique gives the audience an introduction of the first character, It also shows and gives an audience an insight of who the character is. The camera uses a close up of her face, this shows her facial expressions and feelings to the place she is working in which could be that she is fed up or bored of the atmosphere and the same old routine she does everyday.  It also describes her as a person. In this close up it shows her hair done up with a light pink clip in her hair, this could mean different things to an audience but it could point out she’s smart and proper and suits the environment she is working In. focusing in on the background of the close up shows the location she is in, showing dark grey colours that suit the way she’s dressing which makes her fit in with the environment it also shows an audience were the action is going to take place.  Showing this connects the character to the setting.

The next shot is a bird’s eye view of her photocopying; showing the audience what the characters are doing a sound bridge is also used hearing the photocopier before seeing it, this also creates a link between the two scenes and the characters at this work place. The camera then crabs to the left to show the same birds eye view of another character doing the same action as the first. Showing the two characters doing the same action shows the connection between the two making them seem the same like they are compatible and have something in common. In this cuts into a medium long shot showing mise en scene of there clothing, showing what there style is and how they fit in with the enviroment it also links with the two being the same and having something in common. By looking at there clothing you see that the young lady has pink tights, which don’t fit into the work environment she is in this could link to her being quirky, artistic and trendy which could come into mind whilst watching the rest of this short film.

The camera then transitions to another shallow focus of the man whilst looking at the young lady, using shallow focus makes an audience concentrate on his reaction to the women which is surprised and is very intrigued by her , he also shows a slight smile showing the audience that he has an interest in the woman and finds her attractive. The camera then cuts to another shallow focus onto the women showing her reaction which is also showing that she has caught the guys interest, she shows this by smiling then looking down acknowledging the smile of the man. This also shows the audience a quick insight in the two characters new relationship in this scene.

A establishing shot of the office areas is used to show the audience where the next action is going to take place. The man then walks into the frame from the left he then sits with it being a medium shot, this shows his facial expressions of what he about to see in the next shot and also his body language to his day at the office. It then leads to an eye line match of the blue folder on his desk, the camera then cuts to what is in the folder, this shows the audience what the character is looking at which could also lead to a reaction shot, reacting to what he is looking at which creates a different mood whilst watching depending of the reaction that is given off from the charactor.

Through out the short film Non-diegetic sound is played as a soundtrack, the song that is played is synchronous this is because its upbeat, happy and very light heated because it fits with the theme of the short film which is love which could be seen by some viewers as a happy and light hearted emotion to feel. This helps translate the theme to the audience finding audio that goes with the theme.

also during the shots  matching on action has been used to create continuity throughout, for example when the  camera angle is at birds eye view and the man is photocopying he's just about to move the paper to the left of the frame. int hen cuts to the medium long shot with his hand completely moving his hand with the parer to the left hand side of the frame.

this short film is a liner sequence due to no flashbacks present in this short film to make it a non linear piece, there is a start when they first meet at the photocopier a middle when they both start creating small pictures out of post it notes, and a ending when she walks into a room where he is creating a big post it note picture of them both on the office wall. this creates a basic story for a viewer easy to follow along and watch due to it having a linear sequence. This film is also an open ending making the viewer wonder or guess what has happened after the camera has cut due to this short film having no closed ending so not telling the viewer what will happen between the two characters at then end.
