1b- How do I work to a brief with a client?

The brief that I will be working to for this assignment is one for the corporate video to promote the 6th form of Laswap. The client I will be working with is Mr. Quirke the Director of 6th form at Acland Burghley.  I will be presenting the Laswap 6th form in a positive and informative light, which will come across in the editing and main concept of the project video. When analysing the brief I will be focusing on the following things; legal and ethical, regulatory, amendments to proposed final project, budget and conditions, which I will be discussing and negotiating with the client. Also asking and debating about the mise en scene, camera and sound linking it to the positive light of the video. If I fail to follow the brief given and the dissuasions and changes that the client has made then I could face legal action.

Constraints (ethical, legal and regulatory)
When looking at the brief I have to decide the different aspects that I will need to focus on for this corporate video to be a success. I have to pay attention to the ethical side of filming and creating this video, making sure I am not adding anything that is seen to be offensive to anyone watching or who is involved. This could be in the way I address certain people or places in the video. I will also have to pay attention to the legal side of creating this video, looking onto copyright issues if I use certain songs or brands within the video, making sure I gain permission from the owner of the song/brand.
If I am going to be filming anyone to talk about the 6th form area or who are going to be in the background of some establishing shots, I will need their permission if they are over the age of 18 if younger then parents permission.

I will also look into the health and safety for the cast and crew involved in the production, doing a risk assessment before filming seeing and checking any hazards that can cause the people involved harm.

When looking into regulation I have rearched into the company Ofcom and ASA who look into all adverts that are shown in different types of Media. I have been looking at their codes and conventions for different videos and films that go onto T.V.  If the client decides that he would like to broadcast the project we have created I have to focus on the rules that Ofcom and ASA have put up, which means we have to focus on copyright issues, aspects in the footage that could be distressing or offensive to viewers. Also paying attention to the information I am trying to give out about the 6th form, giving truthful facts about the college and the lessons that are available.
Here is the code and conventions that the ASA go by.
ASA:
The ASA make sure hat all adverts that have been broadcasted are acceptable to be shown, making sure they are honest, legal, decent, and truthful and benefit the audience watching.
The main vales that they look into whilst checking adverts are:
- Fair and respectable to all, making sure know one watching will find anything that they are seeing rude and disrespectful to a certain race religion gender and sexualty.
-Accessible and helpful, Making sure that their advert holds a purpose, and help out an the consumers with what they are looking to buy.
- Also making sure that none of the adverts break or include some of the issues mentioned in the codes.

Budget: (Amendments to budget and conditions)
When looking into my chosen brief, I will be finding out some of my own research to present to the client when starting the meeting and discussions about the project. When looking into the budget without the client I have come to a conclusion that there will be no personal finance needed for the creation of the video, due to cameras and other equipment being hired from Acland Burghley school free of charge. Making our way to the different locations whilst filming is also covered due to the crew and cast having free bus passes as well as the other locations of Laswap 6th form being in walking distance. Filming at the location has also been covered, there is no need to rent or pay for the time in the location due to Laswap owning the facilities. The people in the video will be volunteers who have offered to take part in the creation without pay.
When talking to the client in further meetings I will be discussing my research and finding as well as taking in any changes and inputs he has about the budget.

Conditions:
I have not been in contact yet with my client to arrange a meeting so we have not explained and discussed the different conditions of the project. When the meeting is scheduled we will be disccusing any changes he and I would like to make with the filming and the main concept of the project, we will also be getting into the regulations, where the client wants this video to go after the final edit has been put together. If he wants to put it on a certain media, does he want to give it to another company, or keep it for just presentations and open days for year 11 students.

Project:
Because I will be hiring and using locations from the 6th form there will be no fees or budget needed, which will be explained and discussed to the client in further meetings. Finding out the main concept and path that we would like to take this corporate video will lead us to find out a rough duration time of the project. I will make sure I will be organised with my meetings and workload so I can reach the deadline the client has put forward.

When looking at the concept of the main project, i will be talking with my client on what he would like to include, what people he would like to have talk in the video, where he would like mot of the video to be located. As well as what path he would like to take with the video, showing more of the facilities or the variety of subjects that are presented in the 6th form.

The certain ideas I would like to put forward to the client are;

  • Using interviews with people who work with and for the Laswap 6th form, asking their opinions and positives and negatives views about the college.
  • Showing different shots of the new study environment in the four schools connected to laswap, using establishing shot, panning and tracking to advertise and show off this new area for the 6th form students.
  • Using google maps as the transition stages between each school to create a smooth effect when watching
  • Tracking and following people from different school and different lessons seeing how a laSWAP student goes around a normal day.
  • Using high contrast lighting when filming interviews, (like the Apple promotional video) so the interviewee is the main focuses.
  • Editing text on top of visuals to again create a smooth effect when watching.
