Interview questions

Interview questions

What do you enjoy most about St John ambulance?
I believe this question will share the different activities that SJA put forward for young people, because I am trying to advertise Sja I thought this question would be a good idea to share and put forward an unbiased view on what positive aspects there are.
Do you believe that St John ambulance is advertising the organisation enough? How do you think they should advertise?
I will ask this question to young people in and outside of the organisation if there is much notice and information, and asking what would be an easy way for others to know about the service in the future.

How did you find out about this organisation?
This question will be asked to see what young people know and how they find out about how to join different organisation’s like 'SJA'. This question will try to gather information about what the organisation needs to do to encourage more young people to join.

What are your best memories of your time in this organisation?
Again I will use this question for the cadets to share exciting and interesting stories and duties they have come across with their time, which could be used as a persuasive technique to intrigue a listening audience.

What do you think this organisation has given you?
The aim of this question will be to use personal stories to give more information that cadets have done. This will advertise what activities go on during sessions and what skills you will learn and pick up from your time there.

What do you wish to achieve at the end of your time here in this organisation?

This will give a listener career options and openings that come with joining this organisation and how cadets are openminded and are ready to commit and go forward with their goals.

Assignment 4

Refine ideas as result of your pitch

When presenting my pitch, peers that I was presenting to give me helpful feedback sharing the positives and negatives I showed as well as things I could change and make better for another project. Most of my feedback was positive, sharing how they agree I met most of the points on how to present a successful pitch. I did get a comment on how I presented what was on my PowerPoint, saying that I talked fast when sharing certain aspects of my idea. To make sure this doesn’t happen next time, I will rehearse and plan what I am going to say in advance so I will be more confident when presenting, giving me more clarity and a better pace whilst talking, which is a very important part of successful pitching.

1. Conduct interviews in line with plans, including addressing and accommodating the following:

In preparation before recording my radio interview I will be going and looking at different preparations to think about. I will not be interviewing any one in the media eye (celebrity’s) for my radio package. Meaning I will not need to go through an agent or manger to ask permission and get clarification for them to take place in my interview. I will be using cadet’s aged 13-17 from Highgate division that I know personally so will not need to go through anther person for their permission.  I am using young people under the age of 18, I will need permission from the cadet’s parents to allow them to be recorded. Because the organization works with young people a letter has gone to parents asking if any recordings or footage is allowed tone taken when in division location. Checking the files at the division the cadets I want to include have all shown that their parents have singed allowing them to take part in activities. I will also ask personally if they want to be included and used in a radio package. Before the interview is recorded I will first go through my questions I will be asking my interviewees, their opinions or any problems that they have, what they would like to address and change. I have also gone through the unit manger at the division to ask for permission to take and use this issue for my radio package as well as using the location, swell as taking the chosen cadets out of their lessons on Monday nights.

I will also be focusing on the structure of my interview thinking about my interview styling. I will be using a lighthearted relaxed tone when asking questions and speaking to the young people. Before starting the questions I will just be starting the radio package introducing the cadets well as the issue I am taking on. Starting with why I am here talking about this issue, starting with a human-interest piece about my time in the organization. I will manly be asking short open questions, which I have explained in past posts.

I will be recording this radio package at the Highgate division in Gesbach road on Monday the 8th of December and Monday 15th of December as well as Thursday the 11th of December. At around 7-9pm. I will be using the outside reception seating area of the location, using a flip camera and microphone to pick up the audio. There are no windows in this area and most things in the room are covered in fabric like the chairs and carpet. The walls have some fabric notice boards. Although I am not filming in a recording studio where the ambient is clear I will be filming in a room, which is quiet and has no noise distraction. I will also show the questions to the interviewees before I start recording, this is so that they understand what they have to say making it easier to talk when being recorded.

2. Interview ready

I am starting to plan what is needed to have a professional and well organized interview. I attend the division every Monday so I will be working alone, setting up the flip camera and recording by myself. I will hope to finish recording by Thursday night at 9pm (this is without going back and re touching certain recordings) and start editing on Friday in school lesson times by putting it together and cleaning certain footage.  I have picked and studied in detail my content, which I have gained permission to use, which I have gained from a verbal talk with the Highgate units manger, which has been shared and talked about in my proposal. I will be hiring a flip camera and microphone from Acland Burghley School. I have provided a risk assessment sheet of the certain risks that could take place in the location and ways to prevent these risks.

I will be using Premier Pro to edit my audio recording because of my past use and its high Tec Media editing software. I will put together the audio to make sure it flows and sounds like a realistic radio interview that would be placed on Radio 4.  Altogether I believe that my radio package is well put together for its target audience of 13-17 year olds.

Proposal

Target audience and main context of radio package
I am going to produce a radio package including informational facts about the organization St. John ambulance. I am also going to advertise and try and recruit an age range of 13-17 year olds. I would like to use this age range due to them being the right age to be a member of the St John ambulance cadets. I also would like to target an audience who are interested in doing something with their spare time and would like a responsibility that is highly looked upon for a young person. I will be looking to try and spot aspires; young people who aspire to be better and want to do something for their community.
I am going to be using lighthearted tone when asking multiple, direct and open questions. I will be using a soft tone due to the people I am going to be talking to, as well as using open questions asking them what they enjoy most about St John ambulance. I will also asking questions about the history of ‘SJA’ for an audience listening can understand why this charity is around and why it is still in action.
Equipment requirements and time scheduling
I am going to be using a flip camera from school (Acland Burghley) as well as a microphone to record the interview that I will also borrow off school for this session.. I will be using the outside kitchen area to record my interview at Highgate division (Gesbach Road), on Monday nights from 7-9 pm.  Because I am the only one who attends this division from my Media group and have a schedule for the Mondays nights I will be working alone. Nothing will need to be paid for when at the location or getting to the location because of free public transport, St John ambulance own the building at this location so no need to rent out for the time period. Interviewees also use free public transport as well as driving to the division. I have also created a production schedule including all the days were the division is not and is meeting. Starting the interviewing session at 7:20 pm and finishing before break, which is 8:05. I will be recording on 3 Mondays to make sure I have collected enough information from the cadets and making sure I have asked a variety of ages to make my radio package effective for an audience listening.
Journalistic context
I am going to place my radio package on Radio 4 on the segment ‘Secondary’, which talks about many issues and gossip related to students who attend secondary school. This segment starts at 4pm and ends at 5pm giving an hours air time to talk about these different issues. I will be trying to get 10 minutes of airtime to talk about my project of ‘SJA’. I choose this radio station segment 'Secondary' due to the target audience that listens. This radio segment is meant for a younger audience, playing recent popular music and talking about gossip and issues, which fits well with the audience I would like to advertise the organisation to. The segment that I would like to feature on is the right target audience for my project to be shown to, creating interest and understanding about the orginisation I am trying to advertise.

When looking more into Radio 4 and the section that I would like to feature in the context they air main purpose it to inform young people about certain topics that affect them. For example information about results days. My project is different from what is normally placed in this section because I am trying to inform them about an organization that they can join, advertise why young people should be interested. My radio package will be called ‘Amelia’s corner’ that will then be added to the segment ‘Secondary’.
