Legal and ethnical constrains on production

I have considered the legal ethical constrains on production. we have found a range of legal constrants which could be a stopping block for making our short film.

.Copyright on different music, scripts, buildings and location and artworks.
This is using others work like there soundtrack, scripts for there plays and call them as your own this is seen
as a copyright issue taking others wok and using it without there pummision for example is i wanted to use a pop stars orignal song like a beyonce song and using it as a backing track in your own peice, this is ok with payment to the orignal owner in this example beyonce and also permmisiom for the song appear in your film. fThe same goes for differnet location, for example in you wanted your setting to be place in the city of london with famous buildings like the shard in the background, you will need to contact the arcutect who created the idea of the shard and ask his permission to film next to the location and building.

This could effect us with our short film because we would like to use a soundtrack to place over out footage. Having copyright on songs makes it difficult for us to find and choose the right song for our work. We cannot use well known songs from pop stars and songs that are signed and owned by other people. We also cannot film in locations around london and involve famous buildings in our production, for example we cannot involve the london eye in our footage due to copy right reasons. If we wold like to involve one of theses landscapes then we would have to get in touch with the owner or the arctic that created the building and give them a fee to pay for it appearing in your short film.

Illegal acts on films
This is filming a scene that is illegal for example filming anamial crulety or real life murder this is unecceptanle to film and show and also very distressing and upseting for a veiwer to watch.

This wont be too much of an issue in our short film due to the fact our film does not fit in with a genre that involves violence or murder that viewers will find distressing to watch and that is illegal to film.

Use of location which hasn't given you permission
This also links to the point i have made above, when wanting to film at a speical or famous location you need permission from the arcutec before filming and using the building in the film this is so you do not go over the copyright law To gain this pimmision there are different sites and comapnies that sell and hire location for film makers, these locations are based around london in famous areas and local street areas which accomadate your film with the location it needs.

This could be a problem for our short film, if in our pre production stage we planned to film in the city centre and involve many buildings that are famous in london for example the london eye, St paul and others we could be seen as a copyright issue due to the fact that every building had been copyrighted and owned by someone else. To involve theses buildings in our short film to understand the copyright reasons we would need to get in contact with the owner of the building ask for there permission. They would ask for a fee in return to include there property in your film.

.Breaking health and safety rules and regulations on set and in different location.
This could be filming and acting in dangrous locations for example on a high cliff withough the health and saftey check this could cause injury to different people in your cast and crew which caould cause your film to stop filming and be cancalle because of the lack of attention to your crew and casts safety.

This could be a problem for our production because of the location we decided to film in. We chose a local bus stop on a main road. For example one of the health and safety regulation is that we might come in contact with a fast movie car, To keep the cast and crew safe we decided to only film on the pavement to create a lower risk rate of and impact with a car. We could break this by filming in the middled of the road to get a better angle and short for our film, this would break our health and safety regulation, which could cause injury to one of the cast and crew.
.
Use of members of the public without there permission as well as people featuring in the film for example close us of there faces without asking there permission.
If you are filming in a public location there are going to be many members of the public walking around getting invoved with there daily lives, if filming is going to take place in public a notice has to go up explaning the filming that is going to take place and give them warning so they know that they might get caught on camera if they are walking past. If there is no notice the faces of the public should be slightley blurred out not showing there identity. If one meneber did not give any permmision to film them up closer or a medium close up there can be law suit filed due to the lack of filming witout there permission.

we are filming on a public street also using a public bus stop , this means we will come in contact with many members of the public walking past where we are filming or using the public bus stop. To show the public awareness of our filming we put around signs explaining that we are filming at this location  so that they know they might be caught on tape. If members of the public sit at the buss stop whilst filming we will stop and wait for them to catch there bus so we don't catch them in our film.

We aso started focusing on ethical constants looking at what is acceptable on a film set:
Women should be treated equally in the work place not being told to do minor jobs because of there gender. Also everyone with different skin colours should be treated equally and be given the same respect as everyone who works on set.
]
we are in a group with Four girls and one boy which means the female dominate the group which means women is treated fairly because there is only one boy we treated him with repeat, respected his views and opinions and involved him in our re and post production stages and kept him updated with news and new ideas others in the group came up with.

.Behaviour at work and how you treat people
Evertone on set should be treated with respect and everyone should stick to what they do. If someone else like the camera man interfeers with the lighting otheres can see that there is no need for lighting man if the camera man can do the same job.  So its a better idea to stick to what your know and what you trained to do.

Because we are all friends in the same media sessions the relationship between us all is closer then id we are new and meet only when producing this film. We also share different roles when filming helping each other and working with our skills and strengths on different roles whilst filming. We all treat each other with respect, and because we are filming in a public area we know that are behaviour has to suit the environment we are in and not stress or catch bad attention from the members of the public.

Ultra violence in the movie which gives it a higher viewing certificate which means less cinema's ill be able to show the movie.
Violence in a movie is ok depending on the movie and how the violence is protrated to an audiance
.if there is a lot of beating and seeing the weapos used against another person it could be destressing for an audiance and cause upset for younger veiwers so the certificant could be higher which could mean less veiwes of people who do not agree with very bad violance.

This does not create a problem for our production due to its genre. Are film is made to be a rom com. this do sent include violence of any sort which means its friendly for young kids to watch and is not distressing for a viewer.

Being involved and part of a union (pact and bectm)
There are many advantages of being involved as part of a union due to workers getting fair treatment getting fair pay and respect from others is any of the rules of the union are broken then strikes can take place to gain more respect and to gain more pay from the workplace. there also can be union strikes meaning everyone in the union goes on stirke. The two that are know in the film industry are pact and bectm.

Because we are young film makers doing the production for our short film and we do not get paid for our work because its us trying to get a grade for our media Alevel we do not need or have a reason to join a union. If we are treated unfairly by any members of the public whilst filming in the location of our pick we could go back to our collage and get it sorted with our media teacher.

Commentary of Bus stop love

Screen Recording 10 from amelia williams on Vimeo.

This is a commentary of me feeding back and explaning different tecnqiues i have used  in my short film Bus stop love. i examplan in linear orlder what camera movments and effects i have used whilst filming and editing my peice.

Single camera Technique that i have shown in my footage

Single Camera Technique
Where have I shown this?
Framing & Composition

Variety of shot sizes
I have used a range of shot sizes throughout my short film, from long shot of the girl walking towards the boy at the bus stop in day 1, close up of Joeys face when looking at the bus times also day 1 and medium long shot of Joey looking at the time on his phone on day 2 .
Head Room
I did not use head room to my best ability in my main short film so I created another piece of footage showing my understanding of important shots I missed in bus stop love. Head room is used when the main girl is at the breakfast table a cretin amount of room above her head is shown.
Looking Room
Looking room is also shown in the extra footage. I used this when the main girl is looking up at the clock, she is not placed in the center of the frame more towards the left of the frame giving her that cretin amount of room to look at the clock which is off of the right of the frame.
Rule of Thirds
Rule of thirds is used I my main footage of bus stop love. This is shown when the male main character sitting at the bus stop with a close up of his face. Rule of thirds, if a grid was placed In the frame all facial features would be In the same, Each of his facial features are in the same box which keeps his face in line.
Use of perspective
Use of perspective is used in my main footage, it is shown in many different spots I my footage when the two main characters walked past  each other had smiled both showing their own perspective another with day 4 when Joey was walking towards the bus stop he sees his love interest via his perspective.
Blocking
Blocking is used in my main footage this is when the actor is showing an event or emotion via there acting and not the use of camera movement or effect. This is used when the main girl character is walking towards Joey she stops and then Joey shows her reaction this shows the attraction between the two characters and the interest that the male character moves to the female character.
Eye line match
There are two eye line matches In my main footage and one in my extra footage. The first one was in day 1 when he looks up at the bus time the camera cuts to his face to the bus times then back to his face showing what he was looking at and his reaction. The second one was day 2 when Joey walked to the bus stop and pulled out his phone, it then cut to his phone showing what he was looking at then back to his face showing his reaction. The last one which is present in my extra footage which was present in my extra footage when the main girl looked right of the frame the camera then cut to what she was looking at which was the clock on the wall.
High/ Low / Dutch Angle
Low angle and canted angle was used in my extra footage, the main girl walked outside to meet her friend her friend then looks at her friend from her face down using a low angle she then stops at her feet, the camera then turns into a horizontal angle which is known as a canted angle to show what the other girl was looking at and how she was looking at it.
Focus

Manual Focus
Manual focus was used all the way through my main footage showing all shots I a normal clear focus to see the characters actions and emotions clearly.
Focus Pull
I used focus pull in my extra footage at the beginning. I made the main character start of with being out of focus, very blurry and unclear I then pulled her into focus with the picture being sharper and clearer for an audience.
Manipulate Depth of Field
I used manipulate Depth of field in my extra footage placing two bottles on a table one further in front of the other i then focus on on leaving the one behind blurry and the one in front in sharp focus i then change and leave the one in front blurry and the one being in sharp focus.
Movement

Smooth Panning / Tilting
I used a few pans in both pieces of footage. The first one is in my main footage at the begging when the camera is focused on a passing bus then camera then pans at Joey sitting at the bus stop another was in my extra footage in a complex shot tracking and following the actors then panning for a medium close up.
Tracking In/Out (Hand Held)
I used tracking in both my footage, the main footage I tracked the main character walking to the bus stop following his walking until he got to bus stop. The other tracking was used in a complex shot I tracked the two actors walking then I turned into a pan.
Complex Shot
I used a complex shot in my extra footage this is when a single camera is used a follows out more than type of camera technique in my footage I used tracking following the girls and then panning to get a front medium close up.
Coverage

Shot/Reverse Shot
I used shot reverse shot in my extra footage when Meltem and joey were having a condo. I positioned the camera behind joey only seeing the back of his head and hie ear showing Meltem in full. i thin swapped with showing the back of Meltems head and seeing a full profile of Joey.
30 Degree Rule
I used this is my main piece of footage staying between 30 degrees when filming the same shot this is shown when filming Joey on day 1 and day 3 when filming him at the same position at the bus stop.
Cut In / Cutaway
I used this in my extra footage this is when character walked down a street or an alley the camera then cuts onto cretin things that relate to the street or alley she is working in. my example is the main character came out of her house she walks down the street the camera then cuts too three things which relate to the walk she is taking.
Multiple Takes / Continuity of Action
There is much evidence of this in my main footage when Joey smokes the fag and blows it out it then cuts to a closer shot of him blowing it out with the fag still in the same hand. Another example was when he put his head down in day 2 and lifts it with a cigarette in his hand. Another was when he walks in on day 5 sits at the bus stop and is beginning to open his bag it then goes to a closer shot facing towards him as he is still opening the bag.
Lighting & Colour

Use of Artificial Lighting
I used artificial lighting in my extra footage to lighting the set that I was filming in and to also lighten the actors face I used this when the main character was sitting at the breakfast table looking at the clock.
Key/Fill/Backlight
I used a key and fill light when using artificial lighting a key light to light the main setting and character, this causes there too be a shadow on one side of their face this is when a fill light is used to fill in the light to take away the shadow I used this when the main character was at the breakfast table and they key and the fill light was used to brighten up the setting and actor.
Use of Natural Light
I use of natural light was present throughout  my main footage due to the reason we filmed outside and filmed in day time to use the light to light up our setting and the actors faces.
White Balance
We used white balance to show our camera what the color white is, we used this before filming placing a white sheet of paper in front of the camera, taking the picture and in the camera setting choosing the picture for the camera to focus on and use with white balance.
Tinting
We involved tinting in our extra footage using two bits on thin colored plastic and placed it in front of our key and fill lighting giving it a slight red and blue tint. We used this again with the girl sitting at the breakfast table when she looks back from the eye line match with tint of red and blue.
Sound

Use of Wild Track
We used wild track in our main footage before the main filming. This is when we filmed a minute of the background noise so there isn’t any noises that could disrupt or ruin the footage. Because of a soundtrack we wanted to use the use of the wild track was not need in this footage.
Non-diagetic sound
Are main footage used non-diagetic sounds all the way through this footage, a non copyrighted track that we found on a free music for a production website We used this thought our footage given it an effect due to the track we chose.
Recording Dialogue
I used this in my extra footage using a sound boom to pick up any dialogue that i used. I used the boom when the main female character was sitting at the breakfast table and she answers her phone.
ADR
I used ADR in my extra footage, this is overlapping or redoing sound which needs recording via technology, I used this when the main girl has stepped out of her house and meets her friend at the end of her road her friend then shouts ‘Hey’ from across the road which is very distant and faint. The same actor then records the same line at the same point of the footage to make it clearer for an audience .
